Celebrating Woodsmith Construction Inc.’s CHBA Net Zero Builders Certification Course Completion

At Woodsmith Construction Inc., we are thrilled to announce that we have successfully completed the CHBA Net Zero Builders course. This brings us closer to becoming a certified Net Zero Home Renovator and Builder. We look forward to completing our first net zero home and renovations in the next year or so in order to achieve our full certification. Understanding the CHBA Net Zero Program

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) Net Zero Home Labelling Program is designed to promote energy-efficient building practices across Canada. The program has been instrumental in advancing high-performance housing since its inception. Here’s a detailed look at what it entails and how it benefits both builders and homeowners.

 

What is a Net Zero Home?

A Net Zero Home is a house that produces as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis. This is achieved through a combination of high energy efficiency and on-site renewable energy systems, such as solar panels. The CHBA Net Zero Home Labelling Program provides two tiers of certification:

 

  1. Net Zero Homes: These homes are equipped with renewable energy systems that allow them to produce as much energy as they consume.
  2. Net Zero Ready Homes: Built to the same high standards as Net Zero Homes, these homes are prepped for future installation of renewable energy systems but do not yet have them installed.

 

Both types of homes are designed and constructed to maximize energy efficiency, featuring advanced insulation, high-performance windows, and superior airtightness to minimize energy use for heating and cooling.

 

The Net Zero Renovation Program

In addition to new home construction, the CHBA also offers a Net Zero Renovation Program. This program focuses on renovating existing homes to meet the stringent energy efficiency standards required for Net Zero certification.
